West Bay chapel reopens as visitor centre

When the West Bay chapel reopens to the public on Wednesday 1 August as a visitor centre, it marks the latest stage in the life of a modest but remarkable building. ‘It was built in 1849 as a simple place of worship for shipbuilders, fishermen and their families,’ said architect and historic buildings consultant Kim Sankey of Angel Architecture in Charmouth. Work underway at West Bay Discovery Centre

Plans are coming together to restore West Bay’s former Methodist Church and transform it into the West Bay Discovery Centre. Bridport Area Development Trust, the local charity behind the project, has announced that after a formal tender process, R&C Building Conservation of Shaftesbury have been appointed the contract to deliver the construction-related part of the project.
