14 Willow Vale

This grade II* 1720 merchants house is one in a terrace of three houses on the north side of the river Frome.  We have been appointed to carry out essential repairs to the roofs and chimneys including the removal of cementitious render.

The house had been vacant for at least a year and requires a complete new heating system including boiler, electrics, new bathrooms and kitchen.  The excavation of a 2m deep ‘slot’ in the garden adjacent to the north gable end was necessary to avoid the ingress of damp through the solid masonry into the dining room and kitchen on the lower ground floor. This was achieved using a Newton lath membrane and sustainable floor structure with recycled foamed glass insulating gravel laid under limecrete to ensure the structure is breathable below under floor heating.
