Scaffolding is coming down after the re-building of one chimney and reinstatement of another on this Grade II cottage. It has a new thatched combed wheat reed roof covering and new joinery throughout. The whole project will have taken less than a year from appointment to completion. The secret to this seamless process was the booking in of trades at the time of purchase, the clients put down a deposit with the thatcher, the joiner and the kitchen manufacturer to ensure a smooth transition from granting of consent in August to discharging planning conditions and Building Regulations approval in October.
This scheme is a good example of how clients are able project manage their own projects from a distance whilst maintaining high standards and cost control. The choice of a good local building contractor is key.
3 Charmouth House is one of four properties which was created from Charmouth House Hotel when it was subdivided in 2005.
Planning permission for improvement works have now been granted consent by Dorset Council. The works comprise modest alterations to the window shutters and the opening up of the kitchen.
