27 Cheap Street, Sherborne

The application for 27 Cheap Street has been threefold, obtaining planning permission for the conversion of the first and second-floor maisonette into apartments and the extension of the retail area and storage facility. The second application for the enlargement of the shopfront was refused but allowed on the subsequent attempt. The shopfront, which comprises projecting display units of marble stall risers and bronze framed cabinets with leaded lights above, although unlisted, is regarded as a unique example of its period, dating from the 1920’s. The shopfront will be extended in height to improve the stability and security of the windows, allowing more light into the deep plan of the shop.
