The Ice House

The Bridport Milennium Green Trust seek to conserve the ice house, set within the ‘pleasure gardens’ of Grade II* Downe Hall as part of the wider parkland at the beginning of the woodland walk.  The masonry structure has been subsumed by vegetation but is still clearly visible from the track to the west and access remains to the lower level from the south.  The wall to the north is of Bothenhampton Stone (Forest Marble) with a sweeping coping abutting rusticated gate piers of imported Chideock or Beaminster stone.   Stone has been salvaged for the rebuilding and is stored on site.

The proposals will require an application for listed building consent to Dorset Council and input from Historic England.
