INITIAL INTRODUCTORY VISIT
The purpose of an introductory visit is to establish for a modest fee (deductible from a subsequent appointment) what is possible having carried out a cursory inspection of the site and consideration of the client’s brief.
Often it is clear from this 90 minute meeting whether the proposed works are viable or not. The other reason is to ensure that there is a rapport between client and architect and that both are on the same page. It is also helpful where building owners just want a pre purchase inspection and need to assess if they can make alterations to a listed building they would like to buy. The standard advice is to avoid buying a building expecting to be granted listed building consent to change it, as there are no guarantees that it will be possible to make alterations to the historic plan form or to extend a building.
Giving clients the opportunity to hear what options are available enable them to make an informed decision without wasting time or money.
