This was the title of a paper by Dan Cruikshank about the repair of historic buildings published in the 80’s. Today, our ability to adapt and survive is more about who we chose to work for and what motivates us to provide the services that we are instructed to deliver.

Kate Fitzgerald from Whispering Smith Architects explains in her podcast that she won’t work for anyone that she wouldn’t want to go for a drink with. That’s exactly how I feel. Recently I was contacted by a client who asked me to work on a remote island involving collection by private jet and whisked away, a proposition that was very questionable and inappropriate.

For a variety of reasons, too numerous to mention, I have decided to stop taking on male clients and this is a decision not taken lightly. After consultation with a lot of other women who feel the same, I feel incentivised to take action.
