Three weeks in a plaster cast has taught me three valuable lessons. Never take your mobility for granted, never take risks and certainly don’t visit any site alone. I am guilty of all three and what is tragic is that it has take me 39 years to realise this.
Running a business full time, I have never really thought about health & safety as it affects me before I broke my leg. Of course, I wear hi-vis vests, a hard hat and steel toe cap boots and carry out checks before climbing scaffolding and inspecting dangerous structures. Yet, I had lost awareness of just how many hazards exist and how important it is to assess the risks upon arrival at any new building.
